Free Walk-In Access Counseling for Veterans & First Responders
Walk By Faith Counseling would like to thank our counseling interns for their service this semester through the Access Counseling program for veterans and first responders. Our current interns have successfully completed their graduate program requirements, and we are grateful for the compassionate support they provided to individuals within our community.
As a result, Access Counseling services will be temporarily paused for the summer months and are anticipated to resume in September 2026 with the onboarding of a new cohort of counseling interns for the fall semester.
Access Counseling is a short-term, trauma-informed support model designed to assist veterans and first responders (law enforcement and fire personnel) in processing periods of heightened stress or specific difficult experiences. Services are provided by graduate counseling interns under the clinical supervision and oversight of fully licensed therapists. Interns offer informed support, triage, psychoeducation, and care coordination, with referrals to higher levels of care or specialized services facilitated when clinically appropriate.
This model recognizes the value of processing stressful experiences in a supportive environment and aims to help participants normalize stress responses, develop grounding and coping strategies, identify next steps, and transition thoughtfully into ongoing care when needed. The program was developed specifically to reduce barriers to support for populations that often experience elevated trauma exposure and may delay formalized behavioral health care.
Disclaimer: Access Counseling services are not a substitute for ongoing psychotherapy, diagnostic evaluation, or emergency services. Counseling interns do not provide formal diagnoses. Individuals experiencing acute distress or requiring urgent intervention are encouraged to seek support through their established systems of care, including the Veterans Administration, emergency services, or other appropriate medical and behavioral health providers. Supervision is provided in accordance with applicable graduate training and licensure requirements.
