Amy McCandless

UW Intern - Social Worker Program

About Me

Hi, I am Amy. I am a Master of Social Work intern completing my graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, with an expected graduation in May 2026. I bring a strong foundation of experience in human services, corrections, and mental health support. I hold an associate degree in Corrections Science and a bachelor’s degree in Human Services.

My professional background includes serving as a correctional officer for both the State of Wisconsin and a county jail, as well as 12 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant in the Mental Health Clinic. Through these roles, I have developed a deep commitment to serving individuals with integrity, respect, and compassion. My professional and personal values are grounded in faith and family, which guide my approach to supporting clients in their unique journeys.

Outside of my professional life, I am a proud mother of two daughters and a grandmother to three grandchildren, with a fourth grandchild expected in November. My family is central to who I am, and I strive to bring the same care, understanding, and dedication I hold for them into my work with clients.

My areas of interest include evidence-based care, individual and family therapy, Seeking Safety, and supporting veterans and their families, with the goal of fostering resilience, healing, and personal growth.
